Behind the game

About QuadroPlace

QuadroPlace is a free two-player strategy board game designed so two people can sit at the same screen and play face to face.

How it started

QuadroPlace began as an occupational therapy student project. The starting point was a family idea: build a game that supports thinking skills while also creating natural conversation and shared presence around one table.

Why one shared screen

QuadroPlace is intentionally not a detached online experience. It asks for one device, one board and one real-world setting, because the game is also about attention, gestures, patience and the way we respond to another person's decisions.

What kind of game it is

The rules are quick to learn, but the game stays deep. Easy is the entry level, Medium opens tactical jumps, and Hard adds surround captures plus piece recovery for a denser strategic layer.

Two players White and black pieces, an 8×8 board and shared decisions on the same screen.
4-round match Each full match has four rounds, scoring across rounds and a tiebreak if needed.
Three difficulty levels Easy, Medium and Hard each change the pace and tactical focus of the game.

Cognitive and therapeutic background

The game exercises pattern recognition, spatial awareness, planning ahead and working memory. Because it is played on one shared screen, it also trains social skills: noticing the other player, handling tension and staying present together in a competitive setting.

How it is built

QuadroPlace runs on PHP, is protected and accelerated through Cloudflare, and uses Stripe for subscription handling. The project is currently available in eight languages: Hungarian, English, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and Arabic.
